Flinders Chase Visitor Centre

The Flinders Chase Visitor Centre is the centre-piece of the $7.2 million redevelopment of the Rocky River Precinct for Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Rocky River is located within Flinders Chase National Park, Kangaroo Island.

Internal spaces provide for Park information and collection of entry fees before visitors explore interpretive, retail and external areas. Department of Environment and Natural Resources administrative functions areas are accommodated in the western
portion of the building and provided with a separate entrance.

Design themes include site geology and topography, “Island", flora and fauna. Curvilinear forms echo the natural landscape with roof lines and details reflecting eucalyptus leaf forms.

Roof planes intersect through the centre of the building as a reference to the meeting of the laterite and limestone plateaus at the Rocky River. Visitors pass through the line of structural support to figuratively commence the discovery experience of the Rocky River Precinct.
