Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail
The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail is a five-day trek in the National Parks of south-west Kangaroo Island.
Four isolated campgrounds form a significant part of this project.
Shannon Architects have designed all elements of these sites including low impact shelters and amenities. A suite of furniture complements the considered placement of the campgrounds and individual tent sites. Design themes based on local vegetation types combine with other features to create subtle points of difference between each site.
All works have occurred within sensitive natural landscapes. Several sites are in areas previously not accessible to the public. It is a focus for the project and site designs that a wilderness experience is maintained.
The sites were destroyed by major bushfires in 2020 and Shannon Architects provided services for the rebuild to the original designs.
