Remarkable Rocks - Kangaroo Island

Remarkable Rocks is a spectacularly located natural rock formation in Flinders Chase National Park.  The original visitor infrastructure was destroyed in the bushfires that heavily impacted Kangaroo Island in 2020.  The Dept. for Environment and Water required replacement of extensive boardwalks, amenities (previously designed by the practice) and other visitor infrastructure.

Shannon Architects developed concepts for replacement that have changed and extended the experience of the site with increased viewing opportunities and rest points.  A high degree of access is provided with a Class 1 standard achieved to most viewing points.  The walk route has been modified to conceal and reveal views to the Rocks and remove infrastructure from visitor sightlines.  Vegetation regrowth is rapidly concealing the new work.
